Jon Rahm secured his first individual title in LIV Golf, edging past a competitive field with a final score of 13 under. With rounds of 63, 70, and 67, Rahm's consistency and skill culminated in a thrilling one-stroke victory. The triumph adds a significant milestone to Rahm's already illustrious career, marking his 10th top-10 finish in as many starts in the LIV Golf series.
Rahm's path to victory was anything but straightforward. On the final day, he carded a 2 under on the front nine, then accelerated his pace with three birdies across the first four holes of the back nine. Maintaining his composure was key, especially after encountering a three-putt bogey on the par-3 17th hole, which momentarily threatened his lead.
As the pressure mounted, Tyrrell Hatton had his chance to force a playoff. Standing on the 18th green, Hatton faced a 6-foot putt that could have extended the battle. However, Hatton's miss solidified Rahm's triumphant moment.
Reflecting on the win, Rahm expressed a mix of relief and emotion. "It's just emotional, you know, it hasn't been the easiest for our family. Kelly and I have gone through quite a bit … and to get this one done — she did tell me our son Kepa said to bring a trophy from this stretch of golf. I started to believe it was going to happen at one point today, maybe not in the last 20 minutes, but at least I can look in the camera and say I am bringing one home for them," Rahm shared.
Rahm's victory did not come solely from individual brilliance. The team competition saw Legion XIII claiming victory, with a three-stroke lead over Ripper GC. Contributions from Caleb Surratt and Kieran Vincent were crucial in securing the team's success. This collective win underscores the importance of teamwork in LIV Golf's structure, where both individual and team efforts are celebrated.
Rahm’s journey to this victory was marked by challenges, including a missed cut at the PGA Championship and an unfortunate withdrawal before the U.S. Open in 2024. These setbacks make his recent success even more significant and a testament to his resilience and determination.
"Finally get one done. You never want to get those feelings to go on for too long and to get over that hump feels quite incredible. It's been a fantastic week and a fantastic year and (I'm) just relieved that it happened," Rahm stated, encapsulating the bittersweet satisfaction of overcoming personal and professional hurdles.
The victory also boosts Rahm’s confidence as he sets his sights on representing Spain in the upcoming Olympics at Le Golf National. Partnering with fellow Spaniard David Puig, Rahm is enthusiastic about their prospects. "I think that walk down 18 or down the back nine would have been a little bit harder had I not gotten a win, but getting over the hump and getting it done I think is going to give me a little extra confidence if I put myself in a good position on Sunday. I'm really looking forward to sharing the week with David. It's going to be fantastic, and hopefully, one of us can leave with the gold," he noted.
Adding to the high drama of the final round, Andy Ogletree started with consecutive birdies, showcasing the depth of talent present at the event. Each stroke and putt added layers to the unfolding narrative, culminating in a richly deserved victory for Rahm and his team.
As the golf world continues to evolve, moments like these reflect both the individual brilliance and the shared efforts that define the sport. Rahm's victory at LIV Golf not only enhances his personal legacy but also invigorates fans and fellow competitors alike, setting a high bar for excellence and determination.
